The Shippensburg University softball team finished up its Spring Break schedule on Sunday (15 games over the last eight days) with two victories at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament in Salem, Va. SU defeated Virginia-Wise, 11-7, and then beat Davis & Elkins, 4-0, in games played at the Moyer Complex.

Shippensburg (9-12) went off at the plate, hitting seven home runs over the course of the two games. SU had hit seven home runs for the entire season (19 games) entering Sunday. The Raiders collected 25 hits, batted .391 as a team and totaled 10 extra-base hits.

SU and Virginia-Wise (10-11) were tied 3-3 through five innings before the Raiders plated eight runs over the final two innings. Shippensburg led 11-3 entering the bottom of the seventh before the Cavaliers responded with four straight runs. Freshman
Taryn Wilson entered the circle to get the final three outs. Sophomore
Chloe Collins got the win, striking out six in six innings of work.

Wilson started against Davis & Elkins (12-4) and held the Senators to just two hits in six innings. After retiring the first batter in the seventh, and with a steady rain falling, Wilson allowed three straight walks to load the bases. Collins then entered the game and induced a pop-up and a flyout to end the game – picking up her first career save. Wilson improved her record to 5-1.

Briana Giovenco led Shippensburg with four hits on the day, going 4-for-8 at the plate with a double and a stolen base. Collins and freshman
Maddie Schafer each had three hits – with Schafer also drawing a walk to reach base four times on the day.

Of the Raider sluggers, sophomores
Eryn Caragein and
Anna Warfield hit home runs in consecutive at-bats against Virginia-Wise. Warfield's round trippers were the first two of her career. Caragein was 3-for-4 with two homers, four RBIs and a stolen base in the game, including a three-run homer in the five-run seventh inning, while Warfield hit a solo homer in the fourth and a two-run shot in the sixth.

Senior
Taylor Pattillo hit a home run in each game. She clubbed a pair of two-run shots, including a round tripper in the first inning of the Davis & Elkins contest, and added a sacrifice fly against Virginia-Wise.

Sophomore
Macy Luck has made starts at three different positions over the team's last four games, playing at third base on Saturday night, catching against Virginia-Wise Sunday morning and then debuting at second base against Davis & Elkins. Luck was 3-for-8 at the plate with a home run, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Sophomore
Tara Bicko had three hits, an RBI and two runs scored. Fellow sophomore
Maddie Mulhall also had two hits in four at-bats.

In five games this weekend in Salem, SU went 4-1 and totaled 44 hits – including 10 home runs. The Raiders batted .310 as a team and the pitchers struck out 35 batters in 35 innings.

Shippensburg will have its home opener at 1 p.m. Saturday, hosting IUP in a conference crossover doubleheader from Robb Field.
