Rawa, Zeiders Power No. 2 Field Hockey Over West Chester, 3-1

SU forwards were responsible for all three Raider goals in the victory

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University field hockey team erased its first in-game deficit of the season Tuesday with three unanswered goals, defeating West Chester, 3-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (11-1, 4-0 PSAC) recorded its sixth straight victory and its fourth consecutive win in conference play.

West Chester (5-6, 2-2) got off to a quick start, taking an early lead after Rachal Toppi deflected home a goal off a penalty corner in the second minute. It was Toppi's 11th goal of the season.

Shippensburg took command after falling behind early, pulling even with the Golden Rams after senior Cassie Rawa scored on a deflection in the 10th minute. Junior Kylie Huffman had the initial shot and was credited with the assist.

Shippensburg grabbed the lead right before the half after sophomore Brooke Zeiders notched her fourth goal of the season off an assist from freshman Hannah Selassie to give the Raiders a 2-1 advantage. Zeiders has now scored a goal in three straight games.

Rawa and Zeiders wasted no time after the break to keep momentum going for Shippensburg, as Zeiders delivered a perfect cross-crease pass in the 39th minute to a wide-open Rawa who tapped in her third goal of the season.

Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Ally Mooney recorded one save on the afternoon and finished with her 11th victory on the year.

Shippensburg will return to action Saturday at 11 a.m. against Slippery Rock for Senior Day at Robb Sports Complex. SU will honor Taylor Fisher, Katelyn Grazan, Suzanne Muller, Rawa and Miranda Wallace in pre-game festivities.
