SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey team got a goal with 13 seconds left in regulation from junior Emily Barnard to defeat Slippery Rock, 2-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on a rainy Senior Day at Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (12-1, 5-0 PSAC) struck first in the rain after junior Kylie Huffman scored her third goal of the season off a penalty corner in the 22nd minute. Sophomore Brooke Zeiders and senior Taylor Fisher were credited with assists on the play.
Slippery Rock (4-8, 1-4) tied the game shortly after the start on the second half on the first goal of the season for Savanna Robinson.
After end-to-end action throughout the second half, Shippensburg captured the victory on the late and dramatic goal from Barnard in the final minute.
Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Ally Mooney recorded three saves on the afternoon to record her 12th victory on the year.
SU honored its five seniors before the game: Fisher, Katelyn Grazan, Suzanne Muller, Cassie Rawa and Miranda Wallace. These five players are the last remaining players from the 2013 Shippensburg National Championship team.
Shippensburg will return to action Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Millersville.
