SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Junior
Rajchel Moore scored her first collegiate goal with 18 minutes remaining on Wednesday to break a scoreless tie and help propel the No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over No. 10 Kutztown in the regular season home finale from Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (15-2, 8-1 PSAC) controlled the territorial edge for much of the contest but did not strike until Moore, who was shifted from defense to forward in the second half, re-directed a cross-crease pass from junior
Brooke Sheibley into the left portion of the goal.
Six minutes later, junior
Emily Barnard took advantage of a Golden Bear defensive misplay by firing a loose ball into an open goal for her sixth tally of the season.
Kutztown (10-7, 4-5) hung in the game with steady defense, as goaltender Chardonnay Hope made 10 saves (including a splendid first-half toe save on a re-direct by freshman
Hannah Selassie, but the Golden Bears mustered just two shots on goal and only three penalty corners.
Redshirt-sophomore
Ally Mooney made two saves for her 11th shutout of the season and the team's 12th overall – tying the team's total back in 2009.
Shippensburg is guaranteed a Top 2 seed in the upcoming PSAC Tournament. The Raiders will conclude the regular season at noon Saturday at No. 7 Bloomsburg.
