The Shippensburg University women's soccer team got a golden goal from senior
Sharon Juarez in the 96th minute on Saturday to defeat Mansfield, 3-2, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Van Norman Stadium.
Shippensburg (10-6, 8-6 PSAC) scored three goals after halftime against Mansfield (2-12-1, 2-12) to overcome two separate second-half deficits and secure a vital conference win.
The Raiders trailed at halftime, but wasted little time in the second half to draw even with the Mountaineers. In the 51st minute, freshman
Paige Harris tied the game with her first goal of the day and fifth overall on the year.
After falling behind for the second time in the game, Harris tied the game again in the 79th minute on her second goal off an assist from senior
Casey Rightmyer. Harris's equalizer would force Shippensburg and Mansfield to settle things in overtime.
Shippensburg used late heroics from Juarez, who buried her first goal of the season in the first overtime off an assist from junior
Kat Hartner to secure the win for the Raiders. The initial shot from Hartner was sent across the box and hit the far post, allowing Juarez to clean up for the game-winner.
Junior goalkeeper
Kayla Kennedy made four saves in the victory.
Shippensburg will return to action Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Lock Haven. A win over the Lady Eagles on Tuesday would clinch a PSAC Tournament berth for the Raiders.
