The Shippensburg University men's soccer team ventured deep into West Virginia on Monday for a non-conference matchup with Concord, but the Raiders dropped a 1-0 decision in double overtime to the Mountain Lions down in Athens.
Shippensburg (5-10) had a couple of scoring chances throughout the contest, working six corner kicks and firing multiple shots on goal, but the Raiders could not find the back of the net. Sophomore
Cole Kropnick fired a shot that hit the crossbar in the 43rd minute.
Concord (6-8) went a man up in the 88th minute and ultimately took advantage with a golden goal at 104:18. Alex Rhodes netted the game's only tally. The Mountain Lions finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots, and had all five of their corner kicks occur in a five-minute span midway through the second half.
Senior goalkeeper
Evan Raimist was credited with five saves in his second start of the season.
The loss is the eighth straight for the Raiders, six of which have come by just one goal and three of which have occurred in overtime.
Shippensburg will hold Senior Day at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts California (Pa.) for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Heiges Field House. Before the match, the team will recognize
Colten Arnold,
Collin McConnell, Raimist and
Tyler Whitehead.
