No. 1 Field Hockey Shuts Out Mercyhurst, 1-0, for Ninth Straight Win

Grazan scores game’s lone goal in 33rd minute

The No. 1 Shippensburg University field hockey team defeated Mercyhurst, 1-0, in Erie at Tullio Field in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup.

Shippensburg (14-1, 7-0 PSAC) scored two minutes before halftime on a goal by senior Katelyn Grazan off an assist from freshman Hannah Selassie.

Mercyhurst (2-11, 2-5) registered two shots on goal but could not breakthrough on the scoreboard against the Raiders defensive front.

Shippensburg outshot the Lakers 19-2; eight of those 19 were on goal. The victory marked the ninth straight victory for Shippensburg and its 11th shutout of the year.

Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Ally Mooney registered two saves in collecting her 10th shutout of the year.

Shippensburg has a full week to prepare for its next matchup, a Saturday 1 p.m. showdown at No. 2 East Stroudsburg. The Warriors are the only team to defeat the Raiders this season, having posted a 1-0 overtime victory in a non-league match at Shippensburg back on Sept. 17.
