GAME NOTES
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — The Shippensburg University football team returns to the friendly confines of SU Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium this weekend to host the Cheyney Wolves in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup heading into the semester's Fall Break.
Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
About the Teams
• The Red Raiders were picked second in the PSAC Eastern Division preseason poll and return 16 starters from last year's team, including the entire offensive line and the entire secondary.
• The Wolves were picked eighth in the PSAC Eastern Division preseason poll.
Series History
• The Red Raiders have never lost to Cheyney, winning all 17 meetings between the two teams.
• The smallest margin of victory by Shippensburg is 11 points, which came in a 17-6 win in 1988.
• Shippensburg has won every other meeting by at least 13 points and has won 14 matchups by at least 21 points.
Last Week
• Shippensburg could not overcome a sluggish first half on Saturday, dropping a 31-15 result at rival West Chester. SU pitched a second-half shutout for the fourth consecutive week, but West Chester erupted for 31 points before halftime (24 in the second quarter). Sophomore quarterback
Chase Yocum, making his first collegiate start, ran for a career-high 115 yards on 16 carries.
• Cheyney got a career-best 106 yards and two touchdowns from freshman running back Erik Heller but fell, 51-12, in a PSAC East matchup to Lock Haven on the Wolves' Homecoming at O'Shields-Stevenson Stadium. Heller scored for the third-straight game and recorded his first 100 yard rushing game in his young career. It's the most rushing touchdowns by a Cheyney running back since Marcus Jones had five in the 2013 season.
Success at Seth Grove
• The Red Raiders have gone 24-7 in home games at Seth Grove Stadium under Coach Maciejewski. SU has scored at least 17 points in 30-of-31 home games under Maciejewski, averaging more than 44 points per game since the start of 2011.
• SU is 23-2 at home under Mac when it scores 30+ points.
Defensive Returns
• Shippensburg has been able to limit opponents to 111 points through six games — its 18.5 points-per-game scoring defense ranks second in the PSAC and 19th in NCAA Division II. SU is second in the PSAC and 10th in NCAA Division II in rushing defense (87.7), and fifth in the PSAC in total defense (376.5).
