The Shippensburg University men's soccer team could not maintain a two-goal advantage at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival Millersville on Tuesday night, dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to the Marauders in a league match from Pucillo Field.
Shippensburg (5-8, 2-7 PSAC) got on the board in the 30th minute when sophomore
Patrick Luebben finished a corner from senior
Colten Arnold for his fourth goal of the year to open the scoring.
The Raiders made it 2-0 just three minutes after halftime when Arnold netted his sixth goal of the season off a nice run and assist from redshirt-freshman
Isiah Dorsey.
Less than a minute later, however, Millersville (8-3-2, 5-3-3) got within one due to an own goal, and the Marauders later tied the match in the 64th minute when Jaxson Burns potted his fifth of the year.
The hosts emerged victorious just 1:36 into overtime, countering an SU corner kick with a rush up the right side that ended with a center and a goal.
The extra session continued to be unfriendly of late to the Raiders, who have now dropped three straight overtime matches in league play after winning their first at ESU. None of SU's four overtime matches this season have ended in draws, while seven of SU's eight losses this season have now come by just one goal.
Sophomore
Matt Harder made his first start of the year in goal for the Raiders and finished with four saves.
Shippensburg travels to Goldey-Beacom on Thursday for a 3:30 p.m. non-league matchup with the Lightning.
