The Shippensburg University field hockey team posted its fifth straight shutout on Saturday night with a 3-0 road victory at Mansfield in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match at damp and chilly Van Norman Stadium.
Â
Shippensburg (10-1, 3-0 PSAC) scored less than six minutes when junior
Kylie Huffman blasted home her second goal of the year. Just 4:30 before halftime, SU made it 2-0 when sophomore
Brooke Zeiders scored off an assist from senior
Suzanne Muller.
Â
Mansfield (1-9, 0-2) took it to the Raiders during portions of the second half, as redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper
Ally Mooney matched a season high with seven saves. The Mountaineers worked seven penalty corners in the second half to SU's four, but the Raiders held a 12-7 overall margin in the category.
Â
SU cemented the victory with less than nine minutes remaining on the first goal as a Raider for junior
Mary Spisak. Zeiders assisted on the tally.
Â
Through 11 games, Mooney has allowed just one goal in just more than 748 minutes of action – resulting in a 0.09 goals-against average (GAA). SU has outscored its opponents 31-2 through 11 matches with nine team shutouts.
Â
Shippensburg returns to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday when it renews its rivalry with West Chester in a home PSAC matchup at Robb Sports Complex.
