MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team stepped up its defensive effort in the second half on Saturday to extend its winning streak to eight games, defeating Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division rival Millersville by a 74-58 score from Pucillo Gymnasium.
Shippensburg (13-2, 10-2 PSAC) and Millersville (8-6, 5-6) entered Saturday's game as the PSAC's top scoring offense and defense respectively, but the two teams combined for 77 first-half points. SU led at the intermission, 41-36. The Raiders out-scored the Marauders 18-8 in the third quarter to lead by double digits entering the final frame.

Morgan Griffith recorded her seventh double-double of the year with 18 points and 11 rebounds in addition to matching her career high with four assists. Fellow junior
Haley Scullion matched her career high with 16 points on an 8-of-13 effort from the field, she also had five rebounds and two assists.

Colleen Young chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists, while junior
Logan Snyder added nine points. Snyder has scored eight or more points in all but one game this season.

Lauren Gold ran the point well, scoring eight points while handing out six assists to just three turnovers. Gold had 13 assists in two games this week while shooting 15-of-16 at the free-throw line during that span.
SU became the first opponent to shoot above 50 percent against Millersville this season, shooting 52 percent in the contest. The Raiders shot 60 percent from the field in the first half, attempting just eight three-pointers in the game, while making 13-of-16 at the free-throw line. SU also posted a positive assist-to-turnover ratio for the 10th time in 15 games this season.
Shippensburg opened the second half on a 15-4 run to lead by 16 points with two minutes remaining in the third quarter. During the decisive run, the Raiders forced six turnovers and limited Millersville to a 2-of-10 clip from the field.
With the victory, Shippensburg has now won consecutive games in Pucillo Gymnasium for the first time since winning the 1999 PSAC Championship, when the Raiders defeated Kutztown (54-51) and IUP (92-85) in back-to-back conference tournament games hosted by Millersville.
It is the first time that SU has defeated Millersville in consecutive games at Pucillo Gymnasium since Feb. 8, 1994 (76-63) and Nov. 25, 1995 (88-62).
Prior to last season, the Raiders had gone 1-10 against the Marauders on their home floor over a 20-year span.
Shippensburg concludes its three-game road swing at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when it travels to Lock Haven for a PSAC Eastern Division clash with the Bald Eagles from Thomas Fieldhouse.
