SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team scored a goal in each half and limited opposing chances Wednesday in a 2-0 win over Shepherd at David See Field.
Shippensburg (3-3-1) controlled play much of the evening, outshooting Shepherd (3-2-2), 20-7. The Raiders scored first in the 35th minute on a penalty kick by sophomore
Mallory Patterson. The first goal of the year for Patterson was set up by a Shepherd handball in the box.
In the second half, junior
Ashley Weaver corralled a loose ball just inside the top of the box and fired a shot that was deflected by a Shepherd defender and past the goalkeeper. The goal was Weaver's second of the season.
Weaver almost scored her third of the year later when she encountered a ball in the middle of the box after a shot by freshman
Tori Mills had been blocked. Unfortunately, Weaver popped her shot over the net.
The Raiders played solid defense, limiting Shepherd to just three shots on goal and one corner kick. Sophomore
Leah Roy made three saves in her second career shutout.
Shippensburg will travel to West Chester on Saturday to face the Golden Rams in a noon start.
