The Shippensburg University women's soccer team held a lead midway through the second half, but allowed a pair of tallies in less than 10 minutes in a 2-1 loss Saturday at Kutztown.
Shippensburg (2-3-1, 2-3-1 PSAC) took the lead in the 18th minute when sophomore
Bailey Bzdak stuck a fantastic shot into the upper left corner of the goal off an assist by junior
Casey Rightmyer. Bzdak is the only member of the Raiders who has scored multiple goals this season. The Raiders held onto that lead when halftime hit.
However, in the second half Kutztown (4-2-1, 3-2) opened up a large difference in the shot count. The Golden Bears outshot SU 18-1 in the second half, and 26-8 overall. Although the shots on goal count was much closer – Kutztown had eight to Shippensburg's four – the Golden Bears were able to tie it up 1-1 in the 69th minute. Less than 10 minutes later, Kutztown took a lead it would not relinquish.
Shippensburg sophomore goalkeeper
Leah Roy finished with six saves. Freshman
Kiersten Priest recorded her first career shot on goal in the loss.
SU returns home for a match Wednesday against Shepherd, beginning at 6 p.m.
