Box Score SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team opened its 2015 season Saturday afternoon with a 9-8 loss to visiting Georgian Court at Robb Sports Complex, scoring with 3:51 remaining to cut its deficit to one goal, but unable to get any closer.

Shippensburg (0-1) got three goals from senior
Garrie Grenfell, who also had an assist, while senior
Sheila Johnson had one goal and two assists.

Trailing late, sophomore
Annemarie Cericola caused a turnover before promptly scoring on an excellent individual effort to draw the Raiders to one goal of the lead with less than four minutes remaining.

Georgian Court (1-1), however, was able to keep possession down the stretch and hang on to the one-goal lead. It got an excellent performance from its junior goalkeeper Stephanie Lehner, who made 13 saves on the afternoon and paced the game in the opening half, limiting SU to just two goals in the first period.

The Raiders first got on the board with 7:29 remaining in the opening period when Johnson scored to cut the Lions' lead to 2-1. Less than a minute later sophomore
Amanda Frank scored a free-position goal to tie the game at 2-2 at the 6:43 mark before GCU scored three straight goals.

The Raiders trailed by three goals twice on the afternoon, first at 5-2 and later at 8-5. SU chipped away down the stretch and scored three of the final four goals in the contest.

Saturday's game was moved to Shippensburg at the last minute due to the winter weather causing havoc on field conditions back in New Jersey.

Shippensburg hosts Shepherd at 4 p.m. Tuesday from Robb Sports Complex.
