Rich Michaud tossed seven shutout innings Sunday as the Shippensburg University baseball team slugged its way past Belmont Abbey, 14-0, in the weekend-series finale on a sunny, 65-degree afternoon at the Abbey Yard in Belmont, N.C.
Â

Matt Jones.
Â
Belmont Abbey (2-1) committed three errors, while the Raiders had none. For the weekend series, Belmont Abbey had 11 errors compared to just three by the Raiders.
Â

Â
Sophomore catcher
Jake Kennedy continued his slugging ways Sunday. He was 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBIs, three runs and two walks. All four of Kennedy's hits this weekend were home runs, and he has nine RBIs through the first three games. Last year, Kennedy had 19 hits, 12 of which went for extra bases (10 doubles, two home runs).
Â
SU opened the scoring with a five-run fourth inning. Freshman
Dalton Hoiles singled for the second time in two at-bats to drive home Kennedy. Freshman
Grant Hoover then had an infield single to score junior
Austin Allison before junior
Mike Marcinko cleared the bases with a three-run homer. All five runs came with two outs.
Â
Marcinko has three home runs in 12 at-bats through three games. He had just two home runs in 311 at-bats over the course of his first two seasons.
Â
The Raiders added four runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and seventh and one in the eighth.
Â
Hoiles finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI while Hoover had three RBIs, two runs and a walk. Allison was 2-for-3 with two runs. Senior

Â
Freshman
Gabe Mosser pitched two scoreless innings in relief; he allowed two hits and struck out two in his collegiate debut.
Â
SU batters totaled nine walks, its most since registering nine walks on March 29, 2013 at Kutztown.
Â
Shippensburg travels next weekend to Barton College for a three-game series with the Bulldogs in Wilson, N.C.
