WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team tied its season high with eight three-pointers Saturday, however, SU could not keep pace with West Chester as the Raiders dropped a 69-64 decision inside Hollinger Field House.
Shippensburg (14-9, 10-7 PSAC) made 8-of-19 (42.1 percent) three-point attempts and shot 24-of-50 (48.0 percent) from the field, but was unable to gain a lead throughout the contest.
West Chester (18-4, 14-4) was limited to 5-of-16 (31.3 percent) shooting from long range, however, shot 27-of-56 (48.2 percent) overall.
Junior
Stephanie Knauer recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Sophomore
Logan Snyder scored 14 points on 5-of-7 (71.1 percent) shooting including 4-of-5 (80 percent) from three-point range and totaled four assists.
The Raiders held a 33-29 rebounding advantage and forced 17 turnovers. SU totaled 19 assists and 20 turnovers.
Entering the contest, SU was ranked third in Division II with 599 free-throw attempts but was limited to just 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) from the charity stripe while WCU finished 10-of-14 (71.4 percent).
Sophomores
Morgan Griffith and
Lauren Gold scored 10 points apiece while Gold added six assists. Sophomore
Colleen Young contributed nine points and five rebounds.
West Chester guard Dallas Ely totaled 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. In her previous three games against the Raiders she averaged 28 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists. Included in those performances were two game-winning baskets and one that forced overtime earlier this season.
Shippensburg travels to Mansfield Wednesday to take on the Mountaineers at 5:30 p.m.
