EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team used a 42-15 run in the first half Wednesday, including a 17-7 spurt over the final five minutes before halftime, as five different Raiders scored in double figures en route to an 80-60 victory over East Stroudsburg inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
Shippensburg (14-8, 10-6 PSAC) trailed 9-3 at the 16:09 mark in the first half and committed five turnovers over the first 4:45 of the game. However, it closed the first half on a 42-17 run and lead 45-26 at the break.
SU's largest lead of the game peaked at 22 points on two occasions, occurring with 17:51 and 16:32 remaining in the second half.
East Stroudsburg (9-12, 8-9) forced 15 Shippensburg turnovers, however, also turned the ball over 15 times and had 13 assists.
Freshman
Vicky Tumasz tied a school record for single-game three-point field goal percentage by shooting 5-of-5 from long distance. Entering the game, the record was in sole possession of head coach Kristy (O'Hara) Trn, who was 5-of-5 from three-point range in a 45-point game against Cheyney back on Feb. 11, 1993.
Shippensburg entered the game ranked first in the PSAC with 43.2 rebounds per game and held a 45-33 rebounding advantage over the Warriors, with sophomore
Morgan Griffith corralling a game-high 16 rebounds.
Griffith added 13 points to secure her ninth double-double of the season while sophomore
Colleen Young totaled a game-high 16 points to go along with four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
The Raiders limited ESU to 3-of-8 (37.5 percent) from the free-throw line. Shippensburg entered the contest ranked second in Division II for team free-throw attempts and shot 15-of-21 (71.4 percent) from the line.
Sophomore
Logan Snyder scored 10 points, tied a career high with nine rebounds, and collected three assists and one steal.
Shippensburg shot 29-of-62 (46.8 percent) from the field, improving its record to 11-2 in games in which it shoots more than 40 percent. The Raiders limited the Warriors to 25-of-65 (38.5 percent) shooting from the field.
Sophomore
Lauren Gold totaled 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. She was 2-of-3 from three-point range, making her first two attempts during the decisive first-half run.
The Raiders shot 6-of-9 from three-point range in the first half and just 1-of-5 in the second half, finishing the game 7-of-14 (50 percent) overall. The team's season high in three-point makes is eight, set on two occasions.
Junior
Stephanie Knauer collected nine points while sophomore
Haley Scullion tallied seven points, two rebounds and two assists.
Shippensburg travels to West Chester Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip inside Hollinger Field House.
