SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team rebounded from a slow first half Friday to come back and win its season opener, 63-53, over Saint Michaels as part of the 2015 Wolf's Bus Lines Classic at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (1-0) trailed 31-28 at the half after an opening 20 minutes of miscues that included 12 turnovers. However, the Raiders turned the tide in the third quarter by outscoring the Purple Knights 21-8 to take a 10-point lead that it sustained. SU turned it over just seven times in the final two quarters.
Four different SU players reached double figures, led by senior
Stephanie Knauer's 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Junior
Morgan Griffith picked up where she left off last season when she averaged a double-double. Griffith was a constant presence in the paint Saturday, posting 14 points and 18 rebounds.
Overall, the Raiders outrebounded St. Michael's 48-34. SU grabbed 19 offensive rebounds as a team and finished with 16 second-chance points.

Colleen Young hit a pair of three-pointers on her way to an 11-point, 8-rebound outing. Junior
Logan Snyder added 10 points and a team-high six assists.

Lauren Gold, who struggled with foul trouble in the first half, was key in SU's second-half run, finishing with eight points and five assists.
The Raiders limited Saint Michael's to a 37.1 field goal percentage and just 3-of-13 shooting from beyond the arc.
Shippensburg will try to make it a weekend sweep tomorrow when it hosts Davis & Elkins at 6 p.m. from Heiges Field House.
