The Shippensburg University women's soccer team rode a stellar defensive effort to a 1-0 win Wednesday over Seton Hill in a road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match.
The win was Shippensburg's fifth of the season and the 79th career victory for coach
Rob Fulton, who now is the leader in wins in SU women's soccer history. Fulton, who is 79-83-18 in his time as head coach since 2006, passed Guy Furfaro, who led SU to 78 wins from 1997-2005.
Shippensburg's (5-5-1, 4-5-1 PSAC) lone goal was scored by junior
Casey Rightmyer in the 61st minute of the match. Rightmyer's team-high third goal came off a long pass from senior
Haley Jones, who picked up her first assist of the season. Rightmyer has scored in back-to-back games for the Raiders.
Meanwhile, the Shippensburg defense was sharp all afternoon, allowing just two shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper
Leah Roy now has four shutouts in nine starts this season.
The Raiders finished with a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal, while both teams finished with three corner kicks.
Shippensburg travels to Mercyhurst Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.
