Women’s Soccer Defends Early Lead in Win at Mercyhurst, 2-1

Weaver and Rauch tally goals in second straight SU win

The Shippensburg University women's soccer team notched its second straight road win Saturday behind a pair of goals in a 2-1 decision over Mercyhurst in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match in Erie.

Shippensburg (6-5-1, 5-5-1 PSAC) has now won three of its last four matches while upping coach Rob Fulton's school record career wins total to 80. SU is currently 10th in the PSAC standings with five conference matches remaining. The top eight teams qualify for the PSAC playoffs.

The Raiders started quickly with a goal six minutes in when junior Ashley Weaver headed in a cross from sophomore Kat Hartner to put SU in front. The goal was Weaver's third of the season, tying her for the team lead with junior Casey Rightmyer.

Freshman Katie Rauch then found the back of the net in the 35th minute off a feed from junior Stephanie Allshouse to make it 2-0, Raiders. The goal was Rauch's first of her collegiate career.

Mercyhurst (5-5-2, 4-5-2) tallied its lone goal of the afternoon in the 54th minute when Ingrid Karoliussen scored. However, the Lakers had just one other shot on goal against the Raiders Saturday. Shippensburg sophomore goalkeeper Leah Roy earned her sixth win in 11 starts this season.

The Raiders return home for a 3:30 p.m. start Tuesday against Millersville.
