SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team suffered a tough loss to Gannon on Saturday, 2-1, in a pivotal Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on a rainy, windy and cold day at David See Field.
Shippensburg (4-6, 1-5 PSAC) rallied from a 1-0 deficit to tie the score in the 60th minute as senior
Derek Adams scored his third goal of the season by sliding a shot into the lower right portion of the goal off a brilliant feed from freshman
Joey Gallucci.
Gannon (3-5, 2-3) answered less than four minutes later, however, as Chad Petterson collected the rebound of a Sergio Kobowane shot and tapped it into the open cage. It gave GU a 2-1 lead it would not relinquish despite multiple scoring chances for the Raiders over the final 20-plus minutes of play.
Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper
Matt Harder was strong in goal, making seven stops including multiple from close range. Both teams had five corner kicks, with Gannon holding a 9-7 edge in shots on goal.
Fouls in the contest were 26-6 against Shippensburg. Gannon was assessed three of the match's four yellow cards.
Eight of SU's 10 games this season have been decided by one goal, including all six losses. The last 18 losses sustained by the team have come by one goal, dating back to Oct. 15, 2013.
Shippensburg hits the road Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. PSAC match at Seton Hill.
