SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team stormed back with a flurry of second-half goals Saturday to beat visiting Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe Mansfield, 4-1, at David See Field.
Shippensburg (9-6-1, 7-6-1 PSAC) trailed 1-0 at the half, and did not score until senior
Brianna Brancato found the back of the net in the 66th minute. The goal was the first of the year for the defender.
From there, the floodgates opened. Six minutes later, another defender, junior
Stephanie Allshouse scored her first of the season on a free kick to put the Raiders up 2-1.
In the 79th minute, Brancato made it a pair as she scored off a feed from junior
Sharon Juarez. Junior
Casey Rightmyer pocketed her sixth goal of the season less than four minutes later.
Sophomore
Leah Roy made three saves in her ninth win of the season.
The comeback victory for SU avenges a 1-0 overtime loss to Mansfield last season. Plus, the four goals are the most scored by the Raiders in a PSAC match this season. It is the most scored in a conference match by SU since Oct. 25, 2013 – a 4-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown.
With two games remaining in the conference schedule, SU sits two points out of a playoff spot in the PSAC. The Raiders are currently in 10th and must crack the Top 8.
SU is back in action Tuesday with a home match against Lock Haven, beginning at 4 p.m.
