Women’s Soccer Tripped Up in PSAC Match at Clarion, 3-1

Priest scores first collegiate goal; Roy makes five saves

The Shippensburg University women's soccer team out-shot and out-chanced Clarion on Sunday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) showdown but could not come away with a victory, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Golden Eagles.

Shippensburg (7-6-1, 6-6-1 PSAC) threw 13 shots on goal in the game and yielded just two corner kicks, but Clarion (4-10-1, 4-9-1) made the most of its chances and got 12 saves from goalkeeper Krista Mosi.

The score was tied at the half, and Clarion opened the scoring in the 62nd minute on a goal by Aaliyah Odom. After an SU scoring chance, Clarion's Veronika Noyszewski took possession and went to coast-to-coast on a counter attack to make it 2-0 in the 73rd minute.

Freshman Kiersten Priest, playing in just her fifth collegiate game, scored her first collegiate goal to make it 2-1 in the 82nd minute. She went top left corner off an assist from senior Brianna Brancato.

SU went full-bore with offensive pressure at the end of the contest, and Clarion was able to get a third goal in the final minute. McKenzie Sheesley converted a rebound after sophomore goalkeeper Leah Roy made the initial save.

Roy finished with five saves, making four in the first half.

The Raiders are currently in 10th place in the PSAC standings with three conference matches remaining. SU is two points out of a playoff spot at the moment. The Top 8 teams in the PSAC standings qualify for the postseason tournament.

Shippensburg travels to Lincoln at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
