Steph Knauer Joins 1,000-Point Club as Women’s Basketball Defeats Clarion, 65-40

SU junior scores a game-high 23 points, has scored 1,002 points in 69 games

Junior Stephanie Knauer became the newest member of the 1,000-point club Wednesday night as the Shippensburg University women's basketball team concluded its PSAC crossover schedule with a 65-40 victory over Clarion inside Tippin Gymnasium.

Shippensburg (8-7, 4-5 PSAC) got a game-high 23 points from Knauer, who has now scored 1,002 points over the course of 69 games in a Raider uniform (14.5 points per game). She finished Wednesday's game shooting 9-of-16 from the field, making 5-of-8 at the free-throw line and grabbing five rebounds. Her 16 points at halftime marked the third time this season she has scored 15 or more points in the first half.

Sophomore Morgan Griffith scored nine points on 4-of-8 shooting and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Griffith, averaging 9.8 rebounds per game this season, recorded her seventh double-digit rebounding effort this year.

Fellow sophomore Logan Snyder reached double digits for the second straight game and the sixth time this season, totaling 11 points including two of SU's three three-pointers in the game.

Sophomore Lauren Gold had just four points, all at the free-throw line, but dished out five assists and matched her career high with eight rebounds.

Redshirt-freshman Victoria Blackburn led the Raiders in assists on Wednesday, handing out six in addition to scoring seven points in 16 minutes off the bench. Sophomore Haley Scullion had four points and four rebounds.

Shippensburg committed a season-low nine turnovers, including just four in the opening 20 minutes. SU never trailed; it held a 35-20 halftime advantage and led by as many as 27 during the second half. The team also matched its season high with 41 defensive rebounds and allowed just six second-chance points in the game.

The Raiders were whistled for just seven fouls Wednesday, their fewest in a single game since Dec. 1, 2007 in a home win over Kutztown. The game was delayed by 35 minutes due to difficult travel for the officials; the game featured just two officials in the first half.

SU now leads the all-time series, 26-25.

Shippensburg hosts Mansfield at 1 p.m. Saturday from Heiges Field House.
