Women’s Basketball Puts Six in Double Figures in Defeating Mansfield, 90-78

SU gets career-high 19 from Snyder, totals season-high 52 points in the paint

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team had six players post double figures in a game for the first time in 15 years on Saturday as the Raiders held off a hard-charging Mansfield squad, 90-78, in a PSAC Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House.

Shippensburg (9-7, 5-5 PSAC) won back-to-back conference games for the first time this season by shooting 50 percent from the field (including 58 percent in the second half) and scoring a season-high 52 points in the paint. The Raiders were solid distributing the basketball, handing out 21 assists, and got 21 points from the bench despite all five starters posting double figures.

Sophomore Logan Snyder paced SU in scoring for the second time in three games, netting a career-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Snyder added three assists and two rebounds despite battling foul trouble throughout the game.

Sophomores Morgan Griffith and Colleen Young each scored 14 points, with Griffith finishing a rebound shy of a double-double on 6-of-10 shooting and Young going 10-of-15 at the free-throw line. Junior Stephanie Knauer, honored before the game for reaching 1,000 career points, had 10 points and three rebounds in Saturday's game.

From the point, sophomore Lauren Gold flirted with a triple-double by scoring 12 points, recording eight assists and reaching a career high of eight rebounds for the second-straight game and the third time overall. Gold made two of SU's four three-pointers and had two steals.

Sophomore Haley Scullion had a sterling effort off the bench, making her first five shots from the field to match her career high with 10 points. She also had four rebounds, two assists and matched another career high with three blocks in just 16 minutes.

Both SU and Mansfield (1-14, 0-11) contributed to a foul-filled affair Saturday, as the 48 combined fouls resulted in 63 free throws. The Raiders were 24-of-37 (64.9 percent), while the Mountaineers stayed in the game with a 21-of-26 (80.8 percent) effort at the free-throw line.

The Mounties battled all game long, cutting a 20-point deficit to 10 points in the second half, and shot 55 percent from the field during the final 20 minutes. Katie Fitzpatrick scored a game-high 32 points on 12-of-17 shooting and an 8-of-9 performance at the free-throw line, giving her 58 points in her last two games at Heiges Field House.

The last time that SU had six players finish in double figures was on Feb. 3, 2000 in a 90-61 victory over Columbia Union (now Washington Adventist).

Shippensburg returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when it travels to face Kutztown at Keystone Arena.
