Carlisle SentinelSHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team closed the first half on a 17-0 run en route to a 70-58 victory over PSAC East foe Lock Haven Wednesday night inside Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (12-7, 8-5 PSAC) held Lock Haven (6-11, 5-8) scoreless for a stretch of 10:01 that began with 8:11 remaining in the first half and ended with a Lady Eagle free throw at the 18:10 mark in the second frame. SU never trailed and led by as many as 30 in the second half.
Sophomore
Morgan Griffith scored 14 points and collected 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. Junior
Stephanie Knauer tallied 11 points, six rebounds and two assists.
Sophomores
Logan Snyder and
Lauren Gold each scored 10 points, while Snyder added three rebounds and three assists and Gold registered three assists and two steals.
Redshirt-freshman
Victoria Blackburn recorded six points and tied a career high with three steals while junior
Caitlyn Deeter scored eight points on 3-of-4 shooting.
The Raiders held a decisive advantage in field goal percentage, shooting 25-of-52 (48.1 percent), and limiting the Lady Eagles to 21-of-61 (34.4 percent) from the floor.
In the first half, Shippensburg forced 12 Lock Haven turnovers and limited the Lady Eagles to 7-of-28 (25.0 percent) shooting while the Raiders recorded seven assists to just three turnovers. For the game, SU had 13 assists and 12 turnovers, and LHU had 10 assists and 15 turnovers.
Each team shot the ball well from the free-throw line, as Shippensburg was 17-of-22 (77.3 percent) and Lock Haven went 13-of-15 (86.7 percent).
Shippensburg hits the road Saturday to take on Cheyney at 1 p.m. from Cope Hall.
