Lacrosse Battles Back Late But Suffers 12-11 Loss at Gannon

Grenfell and Kennedy record hat tricks, Widlake and Johnson score two goals each; French picks up game-high seven ground balls

The Shippensburg University lacrosse team erased an early second half four-goal deficit to tie the score on three separate occasions within the final 15 minutes of regulation on Sunday afternoon but could not fend off Gannon in a 12-11 PSAC road loss to the Golden Knights.
 
Down 6-2 with less than five minutes left before halftime and down 9-5 less than a half-minute into the second half, the Raiders (6-5, 3-3 PSAC) used a four-goal run in a 12-minute span to tie the score at 9-9.

The teams exchanged the next four goals, however, before Gannon's (6-5, 3-3) Stevie Lombardoni scored the eventual game-winner with 2:09 left.
 
The Golden Knights controlled the ensuing draw and managed to hold possession for the remaining two minutes. SU out-shot Gannon by a 28-25 margin, won the draw control battle by a 15-10 margin and held a 28-25 edge in ground-ball pickups.
 
Juniors Garrie Grenfell and Courtney Kennedy each recorded hat tricks. Grenfell picked up three ground balls and Kennedy added an assist and a team-high four draw controls.
 
Senior Bennett Widlake and junior Sheila Johnson each scored twice and added one and two assists, respectively.
 
Freshman Max Barkley also scored while senior Kayla Dalzell and freshmen Annemarie Cericola and Amanda Frank each contributed assists.
 
Senior Liz French picked up a game-high seven ground balls while Cericola added four. Senior Amanda Krok picked up three ground balls and caused a game-high three turnovers.
 
Sophomore Ally Frymoyer made seven saves in net.
 
Shippensburg returns to action on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. home PSAC battle against East Stroudsburg from Robb Sports Complex.
