Women’s Basketball Drops Overtime Decision to PSAC East Rival West Chester, 76-73

Knauer tallies team-high 17 points, 14 rebounds; Snyder grabs career-high nine rebounds

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team battled wire-to-wire Saturday, but was ultimately outlasted in overtime by PSAC East rival West Chester, 76-73 at Heiges Field House.

Shippensburg (5-3, 1-2 PSAC) began the contest with a strong 16-5 run in which all five starters scored at least two points. However, West Chester (7-0, 4-0 PSAC) responded with a 13-0 run of its own to take an 18-16 lead with 11:12 remaining in the first half.

The Raiders led 38-36 at the break and were able to build a 13-point lead, their largest of the contest, with 13:43 remaining in regulation. The team led for the entire second half until the Golden Rams fought back to tie it at 69-69 with 24 seconds remaining.

Sophomore Colleen Young hit a jumper to put SU ahead 71-69 in overtime, but WCU finished the game on a 7-2 run.

The Golden Rams' second-half comeback was due in large part to the lights-out shooting of junior Dallas Ely. She scored 19 of her 28 points in the second half, including a 5-of-5 performance from beyond the arc.

Junior Stephanie Knauer scored 17 points and had a season-best 14 rebounds which included a career-high 10 offensive boards.

Sophomore Logan Snyder scored 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds. Fellow sophomore Lauren Gold scored 15 points including a perfect 8-of-8 mark at the free-throw line and totaled five assists.

Sophomore Morgan Griffith totaled nine points, four rebounds, two blocks, steals and assist while freshman Vicky Tumasz scored nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range.

Shippensburg will travel to Shepherd next Saturday to take on the Rams at 2 p.m. in a non-conference tilt inside the Butcher Center.
