The Shippensburg University women's basketball team used a 22-2 run to open the game Saturday to propel the Raiders over Concordia (N.Y.), 87-47, in the first day of the 50th Annual Pocono Classic hosted by East Stroudsburg University inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
Shippensburg (3-2) shot 52.9 percent in the first half, as nine different Raiders made at least one field goal before taking a 50-15 lead into the locker room.
Sophomore
Morgan Griffith totaled a game-high 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in just 19 minutes of action, as she recorded her second double-double of the season.
Eight different Raiders scored at least six points while all 11 players pulled down at least one rebound.
Junior
Stephanie Knauer netted 14 points while freshman
Vicky Tumasz recorded 13 points including a 3-of-5 performance from beyond the arch.
Sophomore
Logan Snyder totaled nine points, four assists and two steals while sophomore
Lauren Gold tallied nine points, a season-high six assists, and three steals.
As a team, the Raiders recorded 21 assists to just 12 turnovers while forcing 30 turnovers for the second time this season (Johnson C. Smith). SU held Concordia (0-5) to 20-of-55 (36.4 percent) shooting for the contest. SU also recorded 17 steals – a feat that has only been accomplished three times since the 2000-01 season.Sophomore
Victoria Blackburn scored nine points while collecting four assists and three steals.
Sophomores
Colleen Young and
Haley Scullion each totaled six points, including a game-high four steals from Young and two assists from Scullion.
The Raiders will take on Dominican (N.Y.) Sunday at 1 p.m. in their final game at the 2014 Pocono Classic.
