SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore
Morgan Griffith scored a career-high 25 points and tied a career-best 17 rebounds on Saturday, as the Shippensburg University women's basketball team defeated Bowie State, 79-55, in the 2014 Wolf's Bus Lines Classic finale from Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (1-1) jumped out to a quick lead as it opened with a 12-1 run in the first 3:23 of the game. The Raiders led 36-24 at halftime, and were able to keep Bowie State (1-1) at arm's length, as the Bulldogs were unable to cut into the 12-point lead for the remainder of the contest.
Sophomore
Lauren Gold scored 13 points and dished out five assists while sophomore
Logan Snyder contributed 12 points, two assists and one steal.
Junior
Stephanie Knauer tallied seven points and nabbed nine rebounds in 19 minutes as sophomore
Haley Scullion collected five points, three rebounds and two assists.
Sophomore
Colleen Young scored eight points and pulled down seven boards.
Griffith made a career-best nine free-throws on a career-high 11 attempts and also added three assists and two steals. Both Griffith and Knauer were named to the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Raiders held Bowie State to just 23-of-77 (29.9 percent) shooting, the lowest opponent field goal percentage since the team held Mansfield to 27.0 percent shooting on Jan. 14, 2012.
SU opens up conference play next Saturday at PSAC rival No. 16 Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. from Nelson Field House.
