SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team took a 2-1 lead in the 58th minute Saturday but was unable to hang on, dropping a 3-2 decision to Gannon in a PSAC matchup at David See Field.
The Raiders (3-5-1, 1-3 PSAC) trailed at halftime 1-0, but came out of the gates in the second half with intense play, resulting in senior
Josh Gannon drawing a foul in the box in the 47th minute. Gannon's penalty kick was driven with force to the lower left side of the goal, tipping off the keeper's fingertips and into the back of the net for the equalizer.
In the 58th minute, after a flurry of shots, sophomore
Dylan Smith was able to capitalize on a rebound on a header attempt from junior
Brooke Moyer, as he pushed the ball past the keeper into the lower right side of the goal to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead.
The Golden Knights (4-5, 3-1 PSAC) answered in the 73rd minute with a game-tying goal from Tyron Springer after a barrage of attempts on goal. GU then took the lead in the 81st minute when Robbie Bennett scored on a long cross from the left side of the box from Ted Martin.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Evan Raimist tallied a career-high eight saves for the second consecutive day and the fourth time this season. The 16 combined saves this weekend are his most in any two-game stretch this season.
The Raiders return to action Wednesday when they travel to take on Millersville at 5 p.m. from Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
