The Shippensburg University women's soccer team scored a season-best three goals Friday, including two in the first 13 minutes, en route to a 3-0 victory over PSAC opponent Pitt-Johnstown from the UPJ Soccer Field.
Shippensburg (6-7-3, 5-7-3 PSAC) got on the board in the sixth minute when freshman
Jenny Litz scored her fifth goal of the season on a cross from junior
Caitlin Sheehan.
In the 13th minute, senior
Carolyn Smith rocketed a shot from the top of the box into the back of the net to put the Raiders up 2-0, while Sheehan was credited with her second assist of the game.
The Raiders topped off their scoring when sophomore
Casey Rightmyer blocked a clearing attempt by the UPJ goalkeeper in the 78th minute and was able to finish for SU's third goal.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kayla Kennedy made four saves in her seventh shutout of the season while UPJ (0-17, 0-15) goalkeeper Timi Shiock made six stops.
SU held a 24-6 advantage in shots including a 15-1 mark in the first half, and a 7-4 edge in corner kicks for the game.
With her goal,
Jenny Litz becomes the first freshman to score five goals in a single season since Amanda Greenawalt scored seven in 2007. Litz is the first Raider overall to score five goals in a season since 2011.
SU returns to action in its season finale Saturday at Seton Hill at 1 p.m.
