SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team defeated Alderson Broaddus on Monday in its final home game of the regular season, 1-0, getting a second-half goal from freshman
Jenny Litz on a sunny day at David See Field.
Shippensburg (5-7-3) controlled the match, out-shooting Alderson Broaddus (4-11-1) by a 29-6 margin and posting a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman
Kayla Kennedy, who recorded her sixth shutout of the season, was forced to make just two saves.
After a scoreless first half, SU continued to force the issue on the offensive end and received an additional spark with senior
Brooke Clippinger coming off the bench at halftime and contributing to several scoring opportunities.
In the 56th minute, Clippinger got to a loose ball in the right-side of the box and chipped it over to Litz, who raised her foot to high-touch a shot into the goal for her team-high fourth tally of the season.
SU nearly added to its tally on several occasions, but Battler goalkeeper Sarah Turner was splendid and finished with 10 saves, several made at point-blank range.
Monday's game marked the only non-conference matchup of the season for Shippensburg.
SU travels this weekend for its final two games of the 2014 season. The Raiders will play at 1:30 p.m. Friday at UPJ and 1 p.m. Saturday at Seton Hill.
