The Shippensburg University field hockey team dropped a defensive PSAC battle on the road Saturday at Mercyhurst, 1-0, surrendering the game-winning goal with less than three minutes remaining in regulation from Tullio Field.
 
Shippensburg (11-3, 8-3 PSAC) had two good chances to tie the game in the final 20 seconds on shots from senior 
Tori Ricker and sophomore 
Katelyn Grazan but could not equalize the score.
 
Mercyhurst (7-7, 5-5) goalkeeper Jess Wess made seven saves in a strong performance for the Lakers.
 
SU finished with a 16-3 advantage in shots, including a 10-1 margin in the first half, while each team managed six penalty corners.
 
Shippensburg returns to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday versus Slippery Rock from Robb Sports Complex.
