SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team was defeated, 1-0, by No. 11 West Chester on a muggy Tuesday afternoon as the Golden Rams scored with 90 seconds remaining to claim the victory from David See Field.
Shippensburg (3-5-3, 3-5-3 PSAC) held its own with West Chester (11-1, 10-1 PSAC), who posted an 11-8 margin in shots and a 6-1 advantage in corners.
Its best chances came in the 28th minute, as freshman
Mallory Patterson fired a shot from inside the middle of the box that went directly to WCU keeper Alex Srolis, and in the 56th minute, when senior
Brooke Clippinger made a spirited run up the field and sent a cross into the box that ultimately went for naught.
SU got five saves in the contest from freshman keeper
Kayla Kennedy.
Neither team managed a corner kick in the second half.
WCU's goal came off the foot of Carly Yost, who gained separation outside the box in the 89th minute and sent a high shot over Kennedy's leap.
Shippensburg travels to East Stroudsburg on Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. clash with the No. 6-ranked Warriors.
