SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey team could not stave off hard-charging No. 3 West Chester on a cloudy and chilly afternoon, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Golden Rams in a PSAC clash from Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (8-2, 5-2 PSAC) opened the scoring just more than 20 minutes into the contest, as sophomore
Katelyn Grazan notched her first goal of the year by re-directing a shot from outside the circle by freshman
Brooke Sheibley.

West Chester (8-2, 6-1 PSAC) began to tilt the field near the end of the first half and nearly managed to tie the score before the intermission, but SU freshman goalkeeper
Ally Mooney made a splendid save on a penalty stroke just 24 seconds before halftime.

The Golden Rams, who recorded a 15-4 advantage in penalty corners, tied the score with 19 minutes to play when leading scorer Rachal Toppi skyrocketed an unstoppable shot into the top left corner of the net.

Toppi gave WCU the lead with 10 minutes to go by scoring off her team's 14
th penalty corner, as she knocked home a feed from teammate Kristina Scherrer that deflected past Mooney.

The Raiders did achieve a penalty corner with less than two minutes to play but could not record a shot on the opportunity.

SU had a scoreless streak of 371:55 snapped with Toppi's penalty stroke. The Raiders had allowed just three goals in nine games entering Saturday.

Shippensburg travels to No. 1 Millersville for a 4 p.m. re-match Tuesday with the Marauders. Millersville out-lasted Mercyhurst in double overtime on Saturday, 2-1, in Erie.
