The Shippensburg University volleyball team extended its season-opening win streak to four matches on Friday night with a straight-set victory over Stonehill by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-22. It is the first time since 1981 that SU volleyball has started a season with four consecutive wins.
Shippensburg closed out its victory Friday night with a strong rally. Trailing 22-18 in the third set, the Raiders reeled off seven consecutive points to clinch its win.
SU trailed by no more than two points in a first set that featured 10 ties and never trailed in the second set – leading by as many as 10 points during the middle frame.
Freshman
Maria Peluso had another strong match, serving five aces and collecting a team-high 11 digs for career highs in both categories.
Senior
Jill Edwards led the attack with 13 kills and added six digs. Sophomore
Faith Athey ripped six kills on just one error and hit an extremely efficient .455 from the floor.
Freshman
Maura Nolan had 28 assists, seven digs and hit four kills without an error. Fellow freshman
Gabbie Holt added five kills.
Stonehill (2-3) managed just 20 kills against the Raiders and hit just .010. Delia Phillips led the Skyhawks with eight kills
On Saturday, Shippensburg will face Glenville State at 10 a.m. and Assumption at 2 p.m.
