SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – A goal in the 74th minute from senior Casey Bellamy on Wednesday night proved to be the difference for the Shippensburg University men's soccer team in a 2-1 victory against NCAA Atlantic Regional foe West Virginia Wesleyan from David See Field.

The teams played even throughout the game as the Raiders (2-0-1) held a slim 15-13 advantage in shots with each squad ripping five shots on goal. SU also took eight corner kicks to the Bobcats' (1-1-1) six.

"We're a young squad, we brought in 14 brand new players this season and we're trying to get that to jell and that's not easy," head coach Jeremy Spering said. "And so to get a result against such a good side like Wesleyan, you can't speak enough volumes of it, it's fantastic."

Junior Derrick Roy netted his first goal of the season – and first since a 3-1 win at West Chester on October 22, 2011 – when he opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a strike off an assist from senior Jonathan DeNicola.

The Bobcats -- who are receiving votes in this week's NSCAA/Continental Tire Division II poll -- tied it up just five minutes later, however, with a shot from Ante Susic past SU senior goalkeeper Clay Sale. Sale made four saves in net, highlighted by two crucial diving saves toward the end of the first half.

Bellamy's game-winner was also his first of the season and his first since SU's Atlantic Region playoff loss to California (Pa.) on November 10, 2011.

"This is wonderful to enjoy, but we have to push to continue to become more and more consistent," Spering said. "Today I thought we played well in spurts and then the whole second half we played very well. So it is absolutely a work in progress but I am happy in the progress we are making."

The Raiders will travel to Georgian Court on Monday for a 3:30 p.m. match against the Lions.
