Box Score
The Shippensburg University baseball team hit the road Tuesday and dropped an extra-inning game at nationally-ranked Wilmington, 3-2, on a sunny afternoon from Wilson Field.
Shippensburg (18-13) dropped to 2-11 this season when it has scored four runs or less in a game. Freshmen
Rich Michaud (6 IP, 1 ER) and
Kyle McClintock (3.2 IP, 1 ER) both threw well on the mound, but the Raiders were unable to scratch a run across the plate after the third inning.
Wilmington (26-9) extended its winning streak to 13 games with a walk-off victory in the 10th inning. With two outs, Wildcat right fielder Brandon Payne ripped a hot shot that ricocheted off the glove of junior first baseman
Pat Kregeloh and went down the right-field line for extra bases.
Kyle Lindstrom then stepped into the batter's box and singled through the left side, scoring Payne from second base after he slid around senior catcher
Tyler Shover at home plate.
Junior
Michael Douglas scored both of SU's runs Tuesday. He led off the game with a double and scored in the next at-bat on an RBI-single off the bat of junior
Cal Hogan. In the third inning, Douglas drew a two-out walk, stole second and then touched home plate after an RBI-triple by Hogan.
The only other Raider with a hit in Tuesday's game was senior
Cody Kulp, who doubled twice but was stranded in scoring position each time.
Douglas increased his single-season stolen base total to 20, marking the most stolen bases in a season by a Raider since Rick Shumway had 21 in 2008 (55 games).
Shippensburg has a four-game weekend series on tap with Bloomsburg. SU will host the Huskies at 1 p.m. Friday in a doubleheader at Fairchild Field.
