SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Junior first baseman
Pat Kregeloh hit his first career triple Tuesday, driving in two in a decisive four-run seventh inning, to help the Shippensburg University baseball team outlast the scrappy visitors from Lock Haven, 7-3, on a sunny and pleasant afternoon at Fairchild Field.
Shippensburg (23-17) and Lock Haven (14-21) were tied 3-3 entering the bottom of the seventh inning. The Bald Eagles, digging deep for arms late in the game, walked three and uncorked two wild pitches in the frame. With one out, Kregeloh slammed a ball that rolled all the way to the wall in left-center field, plating junior
Cal Hogan and senior
Tyler Shover.
Kregeloh scored on a wild pitch in the next at-bat, and with two outs, senior
Kyle Hollingsworth lofted a home run onto the hill in right-center field that rounded out the scoring.
Hollingsworth's homer was the second of the game for the Raiders, as senior
Simon Beloff also deposited a ball onto the hill in the second inning. Beloff also doubled over the head of the center fielder in the fourth.
SU's other runs came in the fifth. The Raiders took advantage of three Bald Eagle errors to plate two runs – with Hogan and Kregeloh each getting an RBI in the inning on groundballs.
Freshman
Rich Michaud got the start for the Raiders and threw a career-high 6.1 innings, scattering three runs on nine hits while striking out five. After allowing two runs in the first inning, Michaud retired nine of the next 11 batters he faced. He escaped a one-out jam in the fifth by striking out back-to-back batters with runners in scoring position.
Junior
Austin Bartley was credited with the win after throwing 2.2 innings of relief to end the game. Bartley entered in the seventh after the Bald Eagles had tied the game and induced a 1-4-3 double play to quash the visitors' threat.
Nine Raiders had a hit in the game, including seven of the nine starters. Kregeloh's three RBIs on Tuesday brings his season total to 44 – the most by a Raider in one year since senior
Cody Kulp had 46 as a freshman in 2009.
Shippensburg is set to host Wilmington at 3 p.m. tomorrow from Fairchild Field.
