SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University baseball team couldn't overcome a pair of four-run innings from Indiana (Pa.) in a midweek nine-inning PSAC crossover game on Tuesday afternoon, falling 11-3 to the Crimson Hawks from Fairchild Field.

Junior center fielder Michael Douglas put the Raiders (17-9) up 1-0 in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to left field – his second blast of the season. He finished the day batting 3-for-5 with two runs and added another RBI on a single through the left side in the fifth.

Sophomore second baseman Jimmy Spanos went 2-for-4 with a double while senior catcher Tyler Shover drove in a run in the seventh with a single up the middle that extended his streak of 25 straight games having reached base to start this season.

Freshman Kyle McClintock earned the start for the Raiders and gave up six runs on six hits with four walks in four innings pitched. SU finished the game with six first-year pitchers on the mound, as McClintock was followed by freshman Rich Michaud (three innings), freshman Thomas Swartz, freshman DJ Kinna, sophomore Kevin Richter and freshman Marcus Shippey.

IUP (13-10) starter Matt Szukics gave up six hits and two runs in five innings while striking out four. His run support was aided by three Raider errors as the Crimson Hawks also finished with 16 hits – the most given up by Shippensburg in a single-game this season.

SU returns to action on Friday with a weekend series against Millersville. The two teams will play a doubleheader at Millersville on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. before returning to Fairchild Field for a pair of games on Saturday, also at 1 p.m.
