Box Score

Senior pitcher Tom Bush struck out a career-high nine batters and freshman shortstop Mike Marcinko went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and was one of seven Raiders to record an RBI on Saturday evening in the Shippensburg University baseball team's 10-2 nine-inning victory over Shepherd from the Asheboro Tournament in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Bush earned his first victory of the season, going six innings while giving up four hits and two runs. Marcinko, meanwhile, continued his hot start to his collegiate career, as the rookie has now reached base in nine of his first 10 plate appearances through the first three games of the season. He had three singles and a double and stole two bases in Saturday's win.

Senior catcher Tyler Shover and junior first baseman Pat Kregeloh each went 3-for-5 and combined for three RBIs.

Shippensburg (2-1) scored a run in three of the first four innings, with Kregeloh singling home junior center fielder Michael Douglas from third (hit by pitch, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout) in the bottom of the first.

Sophomore second baseman Jimmy Spanos singled to lead off the third inning before moving to second on a wild pitch, advancing to third on a Kregeloh single and scoring on a Shover single. Marcinko led off the fourth inning with a single and advanced to second on a Douglas sacrifice bunt. Spanos then reached first base on a throwing error from the Shepherd (0-5) shortstop that plated Marcinko and gave the Raiders a 3-0 lead.

SU tacked on three more runs in a sixth inning that began with a Marcinko single and stolen base and a Douglas RBI-triple. A walk from senior Cody Kulp put runners at the corners before Kregeloh drove Marcinko home with a fielder's choice RBI. A Shover single then preceded an RBI single from senior left fielder Simon Beloff that scored Kregeloh for a 6-0 lead.

Sophomore Cody Ezolt began the seventh inning with a pinch-hit single and eventually crossed home plate three batters later with a Spanos sacrifice fly to center field.

The eighth inning was much the same, as the Raiders again plated three with an RBI single from junior third baseman Cal Hogan, a balk that scored senior pinch runner David McKolosky and a Marcinko RBI-double that plated Hogan.

The Raiders will play host school Winston-Salem State at 2 p.m. tomorrow before facing off against Davis & Elkins at 5 p.m.
