SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team put forth one of its strongest efforts of the season Tuesday evening as it dispatched PSAC East rival Millersville in straight sets from Heiges Field House by set scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-18.
Shippensburg (23-7, 15-3 PSAC) swung .301 as a team, its highest hitting percentage vs. a PSAC East opponent this season and its fourth-best rate of the entire season. SU had just two attack errors in each of the first two sets and finished with just nine overall on 83 attempts.
Senior
Jill Edwards led the Raiders with 12 kills and nine digs while swinging .375. Senior
Samantha Edwards came off the bench to produce a season-high .636 hitting percentage in three sets, ripping eight kills on just one error while racking up seven digs.Â
Freshman
Maria Peluso hit .357, slamming seven kills on just two errors, and matched
Jill Edwards with nine digs. Freshman
Maura Nolan had 28 assists and five digs.
SU reached its peak Tuesday evening in the second set. With the score tied 7-7, SU embarked upon a 9-0 run with sophomore
Taylor Gottshall on serve that featured three aces, two kills each by
Samantha Edwards and Peluso, a Marauder attack error, a Raider block and two Millersville timeouts.
Shippensburg did not trail again in the match other than at 2-1 in the third set, producing a 6-0 run with the score tied 3-3 in the third set to take control.
The Raiders have now won 15 consecutive matches against NCAA opponents, as its only loss in the last two months came October 30 at the hands of NAIA school Point Park.
Shippensburg hosts Kutztown at 7 p.m. Friday in PSAC play from Heiges Field House.
