The Shippensburg University women's cross country team finished concluded its season Saturday with a 22nd-place finish at the 2013 NCAA Division II Championships held at the Plantes Ferry Athletic Complex in Spokane, Washington.
Shippensburg maintained a tight pack, as the No. 1 through No. 6 runners finished within 15 seconds and 31 places of one another.
Junior
April Schlusser, who had her first-ever turn as SU's No. 1 runner earlier this season at Gettysburg, stepped up to pace the Raiders Saturday with a 114th-place time of 22:45. Schlusser had previously served as SU's No. 7 (2012) and No. 5 (2011) runner at previous national championship meets.
Redshirt junior
Patty Reis finished one second behind Schlusser in 116th place as SU's No. 2 runner.
Freshman
Allison Marella kept with the rhythm and finished one second behind Reis in 22:47. Fellow freshman
Casey Norton, SU's top runner at regionals, crossed the line just three seconds behind Marella in 22:50.
Senior
Emma Shank and
Heather Weiss finished within three seconds of one another. Shank placed 139th in 22:57, while Weiss posted a 145th-place finish in 23:00. Sophomore
Jessica Collins rounded out the SU field in 23:58.
Shippensburg made its sixth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships Saturday and returns five of the seven runners next season that ran on Saturday.
