SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's volleyball team opened its home schedule on a warm Friday night inside Heiges Field House with an efficient hitting performance that cinched a convincing straight-set victory over PSAC East rival West Chester by set scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-21.
Shippensburg (9-6, 2-3 PSAC) extended its winning streak over the Golden Rams to five matches dating back to 2011. Since 2007, the Raiders have posted a 13-2 record against West Chester, including a 7-1 mark inside Heiges Field House.
SU swung .267 as a team, hitting no worse than .235 in each set, and received double-digit kills from three players in the match. Senior
Jill Edwards was credited with a team-high 11 kills to go along with nine digs, hitting .216.
Freshman
Gabbie Holt had 10 kills, swung .444, ripped two aces and posted a team-high 13 digs in an impressive performance.
Sophomore
Faith Athey notched 10 kills on just one error in 13 attempts – resulting in a career-high .692 hitting percentage.

Senior
Samantha Edwards had five kills and led the Raiders with four total blocks. Freshman setter
Maura Nolan had 33 assists and seven digs and freshman libero
Maria Peluso racked up 11 digs.
SU led by as many as nine points in the first set and consistently produced scoring runs throughout the night to establish tempo in each set.
In the second frame, after the two teams exchanged the opening two points, Nolan set up four straight Raider kills and the home team never looked back. An impressive nine-point run in the second frame transformed an 11-10 score to a 20-10 SU margin. A

Shippensburg will host Cheyney at 1 p.m. tomorrow inside Heiges Field House.
Military Appreciation Night: The volleyball team partnered with the SU athletics department and the SU ROTC for a successful Military Appreciation night. Camo volleyball T-shirts were on sale and a contest was held between the second and third set in which fans donated $1 to serve for a prize. In total, more than $1,100 was raised with all proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project. The ROTC provided contributions to the Azalea Project.
