SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team had its school-record winning streak of 12 matches snapped on Wednesday night with a four-set loss to intrastate opponent Point Park by set scores of 14-25, 25-13, 25-23 and 25-19 inside Heiges Field House.

Shippensburg (20-7) hit .265 in the opening set but swung less than .100 in each of the final three frames. Point Park (19-18) hit .197 for the match and committed just 11 attack errors in the final three sets compared to 21 by the Raiders over the same stretch.

The decisive frame was the third set, which featured 13 ties and nine lead changes. SU held a 23-22 lead late in the frame after a kill by senior Samantha Edwards, but the Pioneers responded with three consecutive kills to take the set. The first two frames were so lopsided in either direction that there were no ties or lead changes in either set.

Senior Jill Edwards had a match-high 12 kills and contributed 11 digs for her 14th double-double of the season. Freshman Maria Peluso had 17 digs, while freshman Maura Nolan delivered 32 assists and 10 digs.

Sophomore Taylor Gottshall was SU's most efficient hitter Wednesday night, smacking 11 kills and swinging .429 with just two errors. Faith Athey had seven kills and four total blocks. Freshman Gabbie Holt totaled four kills and 15 digs.

Shippensburg hits the road this weekend for a pair of PSAC East matches. SU will face Cheyney at 7 p.m. Friday inside Cope Hall before taking on West Chester at 1 p.m. Saturday inside Hollinger Fieldhouse.
