The Shippensburg University women's cross country team finished third on a chilly and windy Saturday morning at the 2013 PSAC Championships held on the 6,000-meter 'Farm Course' at Kutztown. SU totaled 103 team points.
Freshmen
Reynah Spence and
Casey Norton earned All-PSAC accolades with seventh and 16th-place finishes respectively. Spence posted a time of 22:30 in her second career 6K, an improvement of 68 seconds from her previous 6,000-meter effort. Norton crossed the finish line in 22:55.
Freshman
Allison Marella was SU's No. 3 runner, finishing 23rd in 23:15. It was a 16-second improvement from her run earlier this season at Kutztown.
Senior
Heather Weiss was the No. 4 runner for the Raiders, posting a season PR of 23:18 for a 26th-place finish. Redshirt-junior
Patty Reis was the final scoring runner for Shippensburg, placing 31st with a time of 23:27.
Junior
April Schlusser also managed a Top 50 finish, crossing the finish line 36th in 23:39.
Mansfield placed three runners in the Top 10 and four in the Top 15 to earn the team title with 65 points, ending Shippensburg's streak of five consecutive conference championships. Edinboro, the region's No. 1 seed per the USTFCCCA rankings, placed second with 77 points.
Shippensburg will send a contingent next weekend to Lock Haven to compete in the Go Fast River Run. The race is slated to begin at 2 p.m. Lock Haven is also home to the Atlantic Regionals to be contested in two weeks.
