SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's volleyball team won its school-record 12th consecutive regular-season match on Saturday afternoon with a straight-set victory over PSAC Eastern Division rival and defending divisional champion Lock Haven on "Dig Pink" day from Heiges Field House. Set scores were 25-19, 25-20 and 25-13.

The Raiders (20-6, 12-3 PSAC) snapped a six-match losing streak to the Bald Eagles (17-11, 8-8) that dated back to 2010 and haven't dropped a match this season since a Sept. 28 loss to California (Pa.). The previous record of consecutive regular season victories was 11, set in 1990.

The sweep gave Shippensburg a crucial cushion in the divisional standings as it finished the weekend 2-0 at home against its chief divisional competitors Pitt-Johnstown (a four-set win last night) and the Bald Eagles. Both the Mountain Cats and Lock Haven each lost to Millersville this weekend as well, giving the Raiders a three-match lead over second-place UPJ (9-6) with seven East matches remaining.

Senior Jill Edwards paced the way with 11 kills to just two errors and added 11 digs. Sophomore Faith Athey hit a match-high .583 with eight kills on 12 total attacks and added eight block assists.

Freshman Maria Peluso contributed six kills with 11 digs while freshman Gabbie Holt added five kills and nine digs.

Seven different Raiders recorded a block assist in the match. Sophomore Taylor Gottshall had a solo block and an assist as well as a match-high two service aces, including a set-clinching ace at the end of the second set that held off a late Lock Haven rally.

Shippensburg hosts Point Park in a non-conference tilt next Wednesday at 7 p.m. from Heiges Field House.
