SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – After scoring the first three goals of the game on Saturday afternoon, the Shippensburg University women's soccer team held off a valiant Seton Hill second-half comeback attempt to hold on for a 3-2 home victory and remain undefeated this season from David See Field.
The Raiders (11-4, 10-4 PSAC) clinched a PSAC playoff spot with the victory as the team now sits third in the conference standings with 30 points.
Senior Rachel Hess opened up the scoring in the 20th minute when her corner kick deflected off the goalkeeper's outstretched hands and into the top right corner of the goal.
In the 40th minute, junior Brooke Clippinger buried a two-on-one breakaway pass from freshman Jenna Brown for her third goal of the season.
Shippensburg made it 3-0 in the 64th minute when junior Carolyn Smith capitalized on a pass 15 yards out from freshman Casey Rightmyer.
Seton Hill (5-11-1, 3-11-1) scored its first goal of the match in the 71st minute on a shot from Jessica Adams. The Griffins then drew within one after Brenna O'Leary notched a goal eight minutes later.
The Raiders held a shot advantage of 9-2 in the first half before being out-shot 7-4 by Seton Hill in the second half.
Senior goalkeeper Shelbie Rackley totaled four saves, including two in the final 11 minutes of play.
SU looks to win its sixth straight contest when it travels to California (Pa.) on Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. match.
