Volleyball Finishes Unblemished PSAC Crossover Weekend with Wins Over Edinboro and Slippery Rock

Raiders go 4-0 in PSAC crossover weekend against the Western Division for first time in program history, win 10th consecutive match

The Shippensburg University volleyball team pushed its winning streak to double digits on Saturday afternoon by completing a perfect weekend in PSAC crossover play with a five-set win over Edinboro and a sweep of Slippery Rock from Pitt-Johnstown's Sports Center. Set scores were 25-23, 21-25, 23-25, 25-15 and 15-9 against the Fighting Scots and 25-20, 25-18 and 25-15 against The Rock.

The Raiders (18-6, 10-3 PSAC) won their 10th consecutive match as it was the first time SU has ever gone 4-0 in a PSAC crossover weekend against the Western Division.

Senior Jill Edwards finished the day with 33 kills and 23 digs while sophomore Taylor Gottshall added 17 kills and 15 total blocks.

The Raiders return home next weekend for a pivotal two-game PSAC East stretch against divisional contenders Pitt-Johnstown (15-6, 9-4) and Lock Haven (17-9, 9-6) from Heiges Field House. SU will host the Mountain Cats on Friday at 7 p.m. before welcoming the defending divisional champion Bald Eagles on Saturday at 1 p.m.

After three consecutive kills from freshman Maura Nolan and Jill Edwards finished a two-point win for SU in the opening set, the Raiders dropped the next two sets to the Fighting Scots (13-12, 5-7) before battling back with wins in sets four and five.

The Raiders were dominant with a 25-15 fourth set before taking seven of the final nine points in a 15-9 win in the deciding fifth set.

Edwards had a double-double with 17 kills, 14 digs and three service aces while Gottshall added 14 kills with just two errors for a .462 hitting percentage and nine total blocks.

Freshman Maria Peluso and sophomore Laura Plank each posted double figures in digs (16 and 17, respectively) while sophomore Faith Athey added nine kills and five total blocks. Nolan recorded 53 assists.

Shippensburg 3, Slippery Rock 0

The Raiders hit .438 with zero errors in the opening set and cruised to their 10th straight-set victory of the season.

Edwards tallied nine digs and 16 kills to just three errors for a .448 hitting percentage while senior Samantha Edwards hit .500 in the match with eight kills and just one error on 14 total attacks.

Plank added 15 digs and Gottshall made six blocks while Nolan added 32 assists.
